Trekking Huayhuash

This trekking covers a large part of the Huayhuash mountain range and is considered to be the second most beautiful trekking in the world.
The Cordillera Huayhuash is located in the central highlands of Peru south of the Cordillera Blanca. It has 7 mountains that exceed 6000 meters high and other mountains that exceed the 5500 meters between them is the second highest mountain in Peru the Yerupaja (6634m) as well Siula Grande (6356m) made famous by the climber Joe Simpson "Touching the Avoid" among others like the Rondoy (5879m), Jirishanca (6094m), Yerupaja Chico (6121m), Sarapo (6,127m), Butcher (5,975m), Trapeze (5,644m), Diablo Mudo (5,223m) and the Pumarinri (5,465m).

Itinerary:

Day 1: Huaraz (3100 m.) – Llamac (3300 m.) – Cuartelhuain (4100 m.)
Transfer by transport to Cuartelhuain where we will install our first camp. Where we will make a walk to the viewpoint Asiac

» Walking Time: 3 a 4 hours approx. (bus 4.5 hours)
» Camping: Cuartelhuain (4100 m.)

Day 2: Cuartelhuain – Mitucocha (4200 m.)
From Cuartelhuain we started to climb towards the first step Cacananpunta (4,700m); then we descend towards the valley of Janca.

» Walking Time: 4 a 5 hours approx.
» Camping: Mitucocha (4200 m.)

Day 3: Mitucocha – Carhuacocha (4150 m.)
This day the trek will be ascending towards the Carhuac pass (4,650m) from where we will have an excellent view of Siula and Yerupaja.

» Walking Time: 5 a 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Carhuacocha (4150 m.)

Day 4: Carhuacocha – Huayhuash (4350 m.)
This day we start our hike following the course of the river to the head of Queropalca valley and then ascend to the Carnicero Pass (4,600m) from where you will have an excellent view of the mountains such as: El Yerupaja 6,634m (second highest mountain in the Peru), the Siula 6,356m (mountain that made famous Joe Simpson after his dramatic climb that led to the story in his book and then movie "Touching The Void").

» Camping: Huayhuash (4350 m.)

Day 5: Huayhuash – Viconga (4500 m.)
This day the walk brings us closer to the southern end of the Cordillera Huayhuash and then ascend to the Huayhuash pass (4,700m). From the count we can appreciate the view of the Raura mountain range as well as excellent views of the South-East face of Trapeze. Then we will visit the thermal baths of Putcka. This day we can relax in the thermal pools.

» Walking Time: 5 a 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Viconga (4500 m.)

Day 6: Viconga – Huanacpatay (4200 m.)
This day the objective will be to cross the Cuyoc Pass (5,000m) highest point of the trek and from where you get splendid views of the snowy mountains: Cuyoc, Puscanturpa, Trapecio, Siula, Yerupaja, Sarapo and Jurao.

» Walking Time: 5 a 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Huanacpatay (4200 m.)

Day 7: Huanacpatay – Paso San Antonio (5050 m) - Huayllapa (3600 m.)
This day we will ascend to the sixth pass called San Antonio at 5050 m. to then descend along the valley of Huanacpatay to reach the town of Huayllapa.

» Walking Time: 6 a 7 hours approx.
» Camping: Huayllapa (3600 m.)

Day 8: Huayllapa – Susucocha (4600 m.)
This day we walk uphill towards the Punta Tapush pass (4800 m.), From where we get a panoramic view of the snow-covered Diablo Mudo (5350 m.).

» Walking Time: 5 a 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Susucocha (4600 m.)

Day 9: Susucocha – Jahuacocha (4100 m.)
This day we will hike towards the Yaucha Pass (4,800m) from where we will have an impressive view of the snowcapped mountains: Rondoy, Ninashanca, Jirishanca, Yerupaja Chico, Yerupaja Grande, Rasac and Siula.

» Optional: Climbing Diablo Mudo mountain 5,350 m (extra price)
» Walking Time: 5 a 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Jahuacocha (4100 m.)

Day 10: Rest day in Jahuacocha
Optional: we can hike around the Jahuacocha lake and Rasac (4600m).

» Walking Time: 4 a 5 hours approx.
» Camping: Jahuacocha (4100 m.)

Day 11: Jahuacocha – Llamac (3300 m.) – Huaraz (3100 m.)
The last day trekking we will descend through the Huayllan valley passing between ichus and quenuales until reaching the town of Llamac; there our transport is wait for move us to Huaraz.

» Walking Time: 4 a 5 hours approx.
